How a plastic bucket is made: from resin pellet to pallet

At HTI Group, plastic buckets are made by injection molding virgin polypropylene. The pellets melt, the melt fills a steel mold, and out comes a finished body or lid. Below is a bucket diagram showing which part appears at which step, plus the six steps from raw material to pallet.

Six steps

A bucket's path through the plant: from raw material to warehouse

Every food-grade bucket we make, from 560 ml to 21 liters, follows the same sequence. Only the mold and the stack size on the pallet change.

  1. 1Raw materials

Packaging is molded from virgin PP5 polypropylene pellets. The body color is set at this step: white, a palette color or clear.

  2. 2Injection molding

In the molding machine, the pellets melt and the melt is injected under pressure into a steel mold. The mold reproduces every detail: the rim, lugs, OPEN seal and the PP mark on the base. Bodies and lids are molded in separate molds.

  3. 3IML printing

For decorated packaging, a robot places the printed film in the mold before injection. The print appears during molding, with no separate labeling step. Besides IML, we offer dry offset printing.

  4. 4Cooling and ejection

The mold cools the product and opens, and automation removes the finished body. The lines are automated from material feed to finished product, and the cycle runs around the clock.

  5. 5Handle and stacking

A handle is fitted to the body - a plastic handle or a metal bail handle - and the buckets are nested in stacks. Nesting is why a pallet holds anywhere from 600 to 7,200 buckets.

  6. 6Pallet and warehouse

Stacks are loaded onto pallets to the product's standard. Finished pallets are stored in the plant warehouse in Ak-Chiy village and ship out from here across Kyrgyzstan and to Kazakhstan.

What it means for you

What our production setup means for buyers

Molding in a steel mold explains several things packaging buyers run into when ordering.

Injection moldingEmpty packaging is compact
Each size has its own specs

Body dimensions and weight are set by the mold and listed on the product page: from 23 g for the 560 ml bucket to 620 g for the 21 liter bucket. Use these figures to set up filling and calculate gross weight.

Printing is decided before molding

IML goes into the mold, so the artwork is approved before the run starts. A label can be applied to a finished bucket at any time, which is handy for trial batches.

Empty packaging is compact

The tapered body lets buckets nest in stacks. A pallet holds 7,200 buckets of 560 ml or 600 buckets of 21 liters, so you need little warehouse space for empty packaging.

Shipping from the plant warehouse

Molding, printing and storage are all on one site in the Bishkek Free Economic Zone. Orders are assembled by the pallet: pickup, our own trucks within Bishkek and the Chuy Region, or a carrier to the regions and Kazakhstan.

Virgin PP5 polypropylene pellets. The same material is used for lids and food containers. The material code, a triangle with the number 5, is molded into the base of each product.

By injection molding: the pellets are melted, the melt is injected into a steel mold, and the product is cooled and ejected. Then a handle is fitted, and the buckets are nested in stacks and loaded onto pallets.

With IML printing: a film with the image is placed in the mold before injection and fuses into the wall. The plant also prints with dry offset, and a plain-colored body works with a regular label. Learn more on the IML printing page.

The body tapers slightly toward the base, so buckets nest inside each other. Stacked, one pallet holds from 600 buckets of 18 and 21 liters to 7,200 buckets of smaller sizes.

14 sizes of food-grade buckets from 560 ml to 21 liters, 9 sizes of medical buckets, 5 food containers from 250 to 750 ml, and 5 and 10 liter jerry cans: 30 products in total. You'll find them all in the catalog.

The plant is located in the Bishkek Free Economic Zone, Ak-Chiy village, 303 Chyngyz Aitmatov Ave. Arrange your visit with our sales manager at +996 222 600 292, available Mon - Fri, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Bishkek time.
