Plastic buckets for paint

Shoppers choose a bucket of paint by how it looks on a hardware store shelf, then haul it to the job site by the handle. That's why makers of water-based paint, enamel, varnish, and primer need packaging that looks good, carries easily, and stays closed until it's sold. We mold these buckets in sizes from 1 to 21 L in Bishkek and supply paint and coatings producers in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. A white body never clashes with the paint color on the label.

Sizes for packing paint

Your production team counts output in liters, while purchasing counts it in pallets of packaging. The table puts both side by side: how many liters of paint one pallet of empty buckets will hold, and how many buckets go into every thousand liters of finished product. The top diameter matters if your filling machine or capper is set up for a specific opening size. The handle listed is the standard option; some sizes offer a choice.

The 15 and 21 L sizes put the most paint on a single pallet of packaging, which makes them the go-to format for crews and job sites. The 1 L bucket does half as well on this measure, but it covers samples and tinting, where customers buy just a little. The 18 and 21 L buckets share the same 332 mm opening, so the line can switch between them without changing the diameter. The small sizes have a matching pair too: the 3 and 3.8 L buckets both have a 200 mm top.

What matters for paint

The bucket works for your paint brand

In a hardware store, a dozen brands of water-based paint sit side by side on one shelf, and shoppers often decide in seconds. For a paint maker, the bucket is packaging, advertising, and a painter's tool all at once, so it has to meet four requirements. Miss even one, and it shows up in store returns and in feedback from painting crews.

With in-mold labeling (IML), the printed label is placed in the mold and fuses with the wall as the bucket is molded. Paint drips wipe off with a rag, while the logo, shade, and coverage per square meter stay legible down to the last coat. For short runs and seasonal shades, a label on the finished bucket is enough.

No peeking on the shelf

The lid snaps into a double rim, and beneath it sits a tamper-evident tear strip with OPEN molded into it. If a clerk or shopper has looked inside to check the shade, it's obvious right away, and the opened bucket won't go to the next customer. For the paint maker, that means fewer complaints about skinned-over paint and short fills.

A bail handle that's comfortable to carry

Buckets from 8 L up have a metal bail handle with a plastic grip. A painter can carry the bucket up a ladder without gloves: the grip rests in the palm and doesn't cut into the fingers. For 1 to 5.6 L, a metal bail handle without a grip or a plastic handle is enough.

Work straight from the bucket

The wide opening and tapered shape let you stir the paint with a mixer paddle and dip a roller right in, with no need to pour it into a tray. After a shift, just put the same lid back on and leave the bucket on site until the next coat. Crews often keep the empty buckets for water, mortar, or debris, so the bucket stays useful long after the paint is gone.

Paint tool

Liters of paint by the bucket and pallet

Paint is made by the liter but shipped by the bucket. Enter your batch volume, and the tool shows how many buckets of the chosen size you need and how many pallets of empty buckets to order. A thousand liters comes to 334 buckets of 3 L or 48 buckets of 21 L.

How to choose

Which size for which formulation

A lineup is usually built around the product: varnish and enamel sell in small sizes, water-based paint in large ones. Below is how the paint and coatings producers we work with in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan split their sizes. For a new brand, it makes sense to start with two or three sizes and expand the lineup once you see what sells in stores.

1Tinting, samples, and restoration coatings: 1 L with a plastic handle.1 L bucket
2Enamel, wood varnish, and stain: 2.3 L or 3 L, enough for a door, windows, or the floor of a small room.2.3 L bucket3 L bucket
3Primer and paint for one room: 5.6 L or 8 L.5.6 L bucket8 L bucket
4Water-based paint for apartments and job sites: 11.5, 15, 18, or 21 L with a plastic grip on the bail handle.21 L bucket
5Test your solvent-based formulas in the bucket before a production run: compatibility with polypropylene depends on the specific formulation.

Logistics

Shipping to your filling warehouse

Empty buckets nest in stacks, so a pallet of packaging takes up little space in your plant's warehouse. You can pick up your order by the pallet from the factory warehouse in the Bishkek Free Economic Zone (FEZ), in Ak-Chiy village, right where the buckets are molded. We deliver with our own trucks across Bishkek and Chuy Region and ship to Osh, Jalal-Abad, Karakol, Talas, and Naryn via a freight carrier. For paint and coatings producers in Almaty, Shymkent, Astana, and Karaganda, we ship pallets within the EAEU. Your sales manager confirms delivery time and cost when you place the order, so it's best to stock up on packaging ahead of the building season. In spring, when construction and renovation pick up, paint output grows faster than most plants can reorder packaging.

Frequently asked questions about paint buckets

Didn't find your answer?A sales manager replies Mon-Fri, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM, Bishkek time

For retail in hardware stores, the most popular sizes are 5.6, 8, and 11.5 L; for crews and job sites, 15, 18, and 21 L. Every size from 8 L up has a metal bail handle with a plastic grip. If you sell through store chains, ask them which sizes move best: shelves are often designed for a specific bucket height.

Yes. A label works for short runs, and IML for ongoing production: the image becomes part of the wall, doesn't rub off against neighboring buckets, and doesn't wash off during cleaning. Color swatches also read well on a white body, so shoppers see the shade before they even pick up the bucket.

So the store and the customer can see whether the bucket has been opened. The lid can't come off without breaking the OPEN tear strip, so swapped or partly dried paint can't sneak back onto the shelf unnoticed. Returns are easier for the store too: an intact strip shows the product hasn't been touched.

The 21 L bucket has a metal bail handle with a plastic grip, designed specifically for heavy sizes. The grip spreads the weight across the palm, so the bucket can be carried with one hand. The 18 L bucket has the same bail handle, 60 g with the grip.

Our sales manager prices your order based on size, quantity, handle, and printing method. Call +996 222 600 292 and tell us your monthly output. If you need IML printing, have your artwork ready: your sales manager will quote printing separately.

Yes, by the pallet within the EAEU: Almaty, Astana, Shymkent, Karaganda, and other cities. Your sales manager confirms delivery time and cost when you place the order. The buckets travel nested, so one pallet covers a sizable share of your output: for example, 816 buckets of 15 L.

The buckets are used for water-based paints, enamels, varnishes, and primers. For products based on organic solvents, test compatibility with polypropylene using your own formulation before launching production.
