Cottage cheese and sour cream

Containers for cottage cheese and sour cream

At the bazaar and the corner store, people buy homemade cottage cheese and sour cream in small portions: for breakfast, for syrniki (cottage cheese pancakes), or for a family batch of vareniki (dumplings). For these by-weight sales, HTI makes 250 and 400 ml containers and a flat 750 ml tray, while vendors buy the product itself from farms and dairies in large buckets. All of this packaging is molded in the Bishkek Free Economic Zone (FEZ) and shipped to vendors and shops across Kyrgyzstan and to Kazakhstan.

From the supplier's bucket to the container on the counter

A cottage cheese vendor works in two steps: buying the product in bulk packaging and portioning it into small containers for shoppers. At each step, the packaging has its own job, and if it's the wrong choice, the vendor loses time at the counter and the product loses its appeal. Here's what to consider before ordering a month's worth of packaging, and what dairy vendors at the market usually ask about.

Buying by the bucket

Farms and dairies supply cottage cheese and sour cream in buckets from 5.6 to 11.5 L. Openings from 224 to 295 mm wide take a large spoon or spatula, and the lid covers what's left between customers. From 8 L up, the bucket comes with a metal bail handle and plastic grip, so it's easy to carry from the car to the counter.

A portion in half a minute

Set the container on the scale, spoon in the weight you need, and snap on the lid. An empty 250 ml container weighs 13 g and a 400 ml one 16.5 g: enter that figure into the scale once, and from then on the display shows only the product.

Every curd in view

A clear container shows exactly what cottage cheese is inside: large curd or small, full-fat or dry. Shoppers choose without asking you to open the lid, and you don't have to handle the product more than necessary.

Stock under the counter

Empty containers nest inside each other, so a week's supply fits in one bag. A pallet holds 17,600 of either size, and several vendors from the same market can split one.

From the supplier's bucket to the container on the counter

A dairy stall buys cottage cheese and sour cream by the bucket and sells them by the container. Select a point of sale to see the packaging, how much sour cream it holds, and what else goes in it. The "Order" tab converts your purchase volume in liters into units and pallets.

How to choose

Packaging for your buyer and product

The container size sets the portion, and the portion sets the amount a shopper will pay without a second thought. Look at what customers ask for most and start with two formats. Choose buckets for buying stock separately, based on delivery volume: how many kilograms the farm brings at a time and how much you can portion out before the next delivery.

How much sour cream and cottage cheese each container holds

A liter of sour cream weighs about a kilogram, so you can easily estimate a portion's weight from the container size. Cottage cheese is trickier: crumbly homemade and dense factory-made cheese weigh differently at the same volume, and only a test on the scale gives you an exact figure. The table lists counter containers and the buckets vendors use to buy product from suppliers.

One 5.6 L bucket of sour cream fills about 22 containers of 250 ml or 14 of 400 ml. If you portion right at the counter, it pays to stock both sizes: the small one for shoppers who want a taste, the large one for regulars.

Logistics

Containers for markets and small shops

Containers and buckets arrive in one shipment: small packaging for the counter and large packaging for buying from your supplier. Pickup is from the factory warehouse in the Bishkek FEZ, Ak-Chiy village, and we deliver across Bishkek and Chuy Region with our own trucks. Vendors in Osh, Jalal-Abad, Karakol, Talas, and Naryn get their packaging through a freight carrier, while dairy shops in Almaty, Shymkent, Astana, and Karaganda receive it by the pallet within the EAEU. Your sales manager confirms delivery time and cost when you place the order. If you sell at a bazaar and don't have your own vehicle, team up with the vendors in your row and pick up one pallet for everyone.

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions about cottage cheese containers

Didn't find your answer?A sales manager replies Mon-Fri, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM, Bishkek time

It depends on the cheese: crumbly homemade cottage cheese packs lighter, dense factory-made cheese heavier. The container holds about 400 g of sour cream; weigh your cottage cheese on your own scale to price each portion.

For the counter and selling by weight, go with a container without a handle: it sits easily on the scale and slips into a bag. If you supply stores with prepacked sour cream, choose small 560 to 900 ml buckets; see our small buckets page.

For cottage cheese, clear: shoppers can see the curds and the color. For sour cream and kaymak, vendors often choose colored containers, since a sticker with the farm's name stands out well on them.

Our sales manager prices each order based on size, color, and quantity. Call +996 222 600 292, and we can quote the buckets you buy your product in at the same time.

Yes. For small orders, a sticker on the lid works well. For an ongoing product line in buckets and containers from 250 to 550 ml, go with in-mold labeling (IML): the image is fused into the plastic during molding.

Yes. A freight carrier delivers to Osh and other cities in Kyrgyzstan, and orders for Kazakhstan ship by the pallet within the EAEU. Your sales manager will confirm delivery time and cost when you place the order.

The container lid has a tamper-evident tear strip you pull off to open it. As long as the strip is intact, the package hasn't been opened since filling, and anyone can see that right at the counter.
