Buckets for Korean-style salads

Every day, Korean carrot salad, hye, soy asparagus, kimchi, and bracken fern travel from Korean deli kitchens to bazaar stalls in Bishkek, Osh, and Almaty. They ride in a marinade of oil, vinegar, and pepper, so the packaging has to close tightly, keep the marinade off the van floor, and open in a way that lets the vendor work comfortably with tongs. We mold these buckets from 1 to 11.5 L in Bishkek: small sizes go to the counter and display case, large ones out on delivery runs to wholesale outlets.

Shopper, display case, or wholesale outlet

Korean carrot salad, hye, and kimchi sell through two channels: small buckets go to shoppers and the display case, large ones to cafes and wholesale outlets. Select a buyer to see the bucket, its top, and its height. "Per shelf" counts how many buckets fit in a row in a refrigerated display case.

What matters for salads

Marinade, smell, and daily deliveries

Korean delis run on short cycles: chop and dress in the evening, deliver in the morning, sell by lunch. The same bucket makes this loop many times, so kitchens have their own requirements for it. Fish or meat hye, spicy soy asparagus, and sweetish carrot salad each behave differently in a bucket, but the basic needs are the same.

The marinade stays inside

The lid seats into the double rim all the way around. In a van where dozens of buckets shift on every turn, oil and vinegar don't splash onto the floor or neighboring crates. At the stall, the lid comes off in the morning and goes back on in the evening, when leftover salad goes into the fridge.

Tongs reach the bottom

The tapered bucket widens toward the top, so vendors can scoop carrot salad or soy asparagus with tongs or a ladle without leaving any behind at the edges. Marinated salad doesn't get stuck in corners the way it does in a square tray. The wide opening helps in the kitchen too: carrot salad goes in straight from a big bowl, with no funnels or extra dishes.

A bucket for everyday use

The polypropylene bucket is washed after every shift and sent back to the kitchen. If it carries IML with your deli's name, the image stays part of the wall. Between shifts, empty buckets nest inside each other and take up a single stack in the kitchen.

The outlet knows it's straight from the kitchen

The strip marked OPEN is torn off on first opening. The wholesale outlet owner can see the bucket arrived sealed, not repacked along the way. For a deli supplying several vendors, it's the simplest way to settle disputes over short weight.

Display and delivery

Opening, height, and buckets per batch

For marinated salads, three numbers matter: the width of the opening, which determines whether tongs and a ladle fit through; the height, which decides whether the bucket fits on a display shelf; and how many buckets one batch fills. The last column is calculated for a 100-liter batch and rounded down to whole buckets.

The 3 and 3.8 L buckets share the same 200 mm opening but differ in height: 137 and 176 mm. If your display shelf is low, go with 3 L; if you have room, 3.8 L gives you 0.8 L more salad with the same opening diameter. For delivery runs, 8 and 11.5 L make more sense: fewer buckets to haul and fewer lids to open. The one-liter bucket is just 121 mm tall and fits in a customer's shopping bag with the rest of their groceries.

How to choose

Two size ranges: retail counter and wholesale

Most kitchens supply both retail and wholesale outlets. It's convenient to keep one or two small sizes for shoppers and one large size for delivery runs, then portion from the large bucket into small ones in the kitchen as demand requires. That way you don't stock five sizes, and your packaging doesn't sit idle when your range changes.

5A clear body pays off in the display case: bright carrot salad and kimchi are on show without a label. Choose white if the bucket carries your deli's brand.

Logistics

Supply for producers in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan

A Korean deli kitchen goes through packaging constantly, so it's easier to buy by the pallet and keep stock on hand. Pallets can be picked up from our factory warehouse in the Bishkek Free Economic Zone (FEZ), Ak-Chiy village, and our own trucks deliver across Bishkek and Chuy Region, so city delis get their packaging without needing a vehicle of their own. For delis in Osh, Jalal-Abad, and Karakol, we send buckets via a freight carrier, right to your city. In Kazakhstan, Korean salads are popular in Almaty, Karaganda, Shymkent, and Taldykorgan, and we ship there by the pallet within the EAEU. Your sales manager confirms lead time and cost when you place the order. Empty buckets travel nested inside each other, so one pallet holds 2,800 of the 3 L buckets or 816 of the 11.5 L size.

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions about buckets for Korean-style salads

Didn't find your answer?A sales manager replies Mon-Fri, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM, Bishkek time

Usually 3 or 3.8 L: both have a 200 mm opening, so tongs and a ladle fit easily. The only difference is height, 137 vs. 176 mm, so choose based on your display shelf. A clear body shows off the salad's color, while white leaves room for your deli's label.

Go with 8 or 11.5 L. A 100-liter batch of salad fills 12 or 8 buckets respectively, which means fewer buckets to load and fewer lids to open at the outlet. On these sizes, the metal bail handle with a plastic grip makes it easy to carry buckets from the truck to the counter without a cart.

The lid seats into the double rim all the way around and holds tight. To keep marinade from seeping out under the lid, don't fill the bucket right up to the brim: the bucket's nominal capacity already allows for a working fill level.

Yes, just leave headspace above the cabbage, since the juice rises during fermentation. Filled to the brim, every bucket holds more than its nominal capacity: the 11.5 L size, for example, holds up to 12.575 L. For kimchi sold by weight, it's convenient to ferment it right in 8 or 11.5 L buckets so you don't have to transfer the cabbage afterward.

We don't have a fixed price list: our sales manager prices each order based on size, quantity, color, and printing. Call +996 222 600 292 and tell us how many buckets you go through a week; that determines the order size and the quote.

Yes, with a label on the finished bucket or with IML. With IML, the image is fused into the wall during molding and stays part of the body, which matters for reusable packaging. In a display case, a bucket like that is recognizable from a distance, even if the vendor next door sells similar carrot salad.

Yes, by the pallet within the EAEU: to Almaty, Karaganda, Shymkent, Astana, and other cities. Your sales manager confirms delivery time and cost when you place the order. For Almaty and Karaganda, where Korean deli food is a big market, it makes sense to order several months' worth of packaging at once.

Catalog

Deli packaging in the HTI catalog

Our catalog lists every bucket size with dimensions and handle options. For selling salads by the portion, food containers from 250 to 750 ml come in handy too: the vendor portions salad into them right in front of the customer, while the bucket stays behind the counter as the bulk container.
