Packaging for cat and dog food

Once a bag of dry food is torn open, there's no good way to close it: the kibble loses its aroma, dust gets in, and sooner or later the cat or dog gets to the torn corner. A bucket with a tight lid solves this both in the owner's kitchen and in the pet store, where food is sold by weight. HTI Group molds buckets from 560 ml to 21 L: small ones for treats, medium ones for home storage, and large ones for bulk sales, kennels, and shelters.

How to choose

Which bucket for whom

Producers, stores, and kennels choose packaging differently. A treat producer needs branded retail packaging, a store needs practical buckets for selling by weight, and a kennel needs large buckets that are easy to carry along the runs. If the same brand is sold both prepacked and by weight, it helps to stock it in two sizes: a small one for the shelf and a large one for the counter.

1Prepacked treats: 560 ml or 1 L, with a clear body and an OPEN tear strip.560 ml bucket
2Home storage: 3.8 L for cat food, 5.6 L with a bail handle for dog food.3.8 L bucket5.6 L bucket
3Pet store bulk sales: 15 L, with a 303 mm opening that easily fits a scoop.15 L bucket
4Kennels and shelters: 18 or 21 L with a plastic grip on the bail handle.21 L bucket
5Your own pet food brand: a white bucket with in-mold labeling (IML), so the graphics don't rub off when the bucket is wiped down.

Three sales channels

Treats, home storage, and sales by weight

Pet food reaches customers in three ways: prepacked treats on the shelf, bulk sales in pet stores, and purchases by kennels and shelters. Each needs its own packaging, and the table lists it along with the opening diameter, which determines whether a scoop or the measuring cup used for the daily portion fits inside.

Cat kibble is small, so 3.8 L is usually enough for home storage, while large kibble for big dogs is easier to keep in 5.6 L and up. Pet stores give each bulk food its own 15 L bucket: the label on the side tells the clerk the brand and tells the customer which pet the food is for. Kennels care more about the 332 mm opening on the 18 and 21 L buckets, which fits a big scoop.

Treats, storage, sales by weight: three jobs for a bucket

Small buckets of treats go on the pet store shelf, a month's supply stays at home, and large buckets for selling by weight stand on the sales floor. Tap a channel to see the bucket to scale, what goes in it, and which handle it has.

What a bucket changes in pet food sales

For a pet owner, a bucket is a handy kitchen container; for a pet store, it's part of the display and a way to sell food by weight without torn bags at the counter. Here are four reasons stores and treat producers are switching to plastic packaging.

Treat shelf2.3 L: 3,300 buckets per pallet
Bulk sales without open bags

The clerk pours food from the bag into a 15 L bucket and scoops out each customer's portion. Between sales the lid stays closed, so the kibble doesn't pick up store odors from the cat litter and aquarium supplies nearby.

Treats in an intact pack

Dried ears, lung, and chew sticks are sold in portions, and customers want to know no one has touched the pack before them. The OPEN tear strip under the rim is torn off on first opening, so any bucket that's already been opened stands out on the shelf right away.

Kibble you can see through the wall

A clear bucket shows the shape and size of the kibble, so a small dog's owner can tell right away whether their pet can handle pieces that size. With treats, it's even more obvious: meaty bites and bone-shaped biscuits sell themselves.

Carried home by the handle

Customers carry a bucket with a bail handle out of the store like a bag, and at home it becomes a storage container. If the producer's logo is on the side, the owner sees it every day, including when it's time to buy more.

Logistics

Supply for pet stores and manufacturers

Pet store chains can combine different sizes in one shipment: small tubs for treats, buckets for selling to pet owners, and large buckets for bulk sales. Empty packaging nests in stacks, so a store's stockroom can take it without a dedicated rack. Pickup is from our plant in the Bishkek Free Economic Zone (FEZ), Ak-Chiy village, and we deliver with our own trucks across Bishkek and Chuy Region. Buckets go to Osh, Jalal-Abad, Karakol, and Talas via a freight carrier. To Kazakhstan, from Almaty and Shymkent to Astana and Karaganda, we ship by the pallet within the EAEU. Your sales manager confirms delivery cost and time when you submit your request.

It depends on the kibble: light cat food takes up more room than the bag weight suggests. The safest approach is to pour the bag into a measuring container once and choose a bucket with a little extra capacity. A home supply usually fits in 3.8 or 5.6 L, and large bags of dog food in 15 L.

Once torn, a bag doesn't close well, it picks up dust from the floor, and a dog can chew through it. A bucket closes with its lid every time, stands steady, and can be washed. You can put the original bag inside if you want to keep the label with the ingredients.

Yes, clear polypropylene shows the product without opening the pack. Portioned treats usually go into 560 ml and 1 L buckets, the label with ingredients and net weight goes on the lid or the side, and the OPEN tear strip confirms the pack is intact.

Our sales manager prices each order based on size, color, handle type, quantity, and printing. Call +996 222 600 292 and describe your store's or plant's product range, and we'll prepare a quote for every item.

Yes. A label suits a first order and seasonal promotions, while IML is for ongoing production: the image is fused into the wall during molding and won't come off when the bucket is wiped with a damp cloth at home.

Yes, by the pallet within the EAEU to Almaty, Astana, Shymkent, Karaganda, and other cities. Your sales manager will tell you how long delivery takes and what it costs when you place the order.

Buckets from 2.3 to 5.6 L come with a choice of a metal bail or a plastic handle. From 8 L up, they have a metal bail handle with a plastic grip: the grip rotates in your hand, making it easier to carry a full bucket from the storeroom to the kennel runs.

Dimensions, weights, and handles for every bucket are in the catalog. Cat litter has its own cat litter buckets page, and livestock feed, poultry feed, and premixes are covered on our feed and premix buckets page. The full lineup for stores and producers is on our pet supplies packaging page.
