Vinegar and sauces

Jerry cans for vinegar and sauces

Table and apple cider vinegar, soy sauce for sushi bars, dressing for Korean-style salads, liquid shashlik marinade: kitchens and production lines go through liters of all of these every shift. These products are easier to store and decant from a 5 or 10 L jerry can, with a screw cap, a molded-in handle, and a flat panel for your label. HTI molds both jerry cans in the Bishkek Free Economic Zone (FEZ) and supplies them to cafes, sauce makers, and canneries in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

A jerry can in the kitchen: how many 0.5 L bottles

Vinegar and soy sauce arrive in jerry cans and get decanted into bottles in the kitchen. Choose a jerry can, and the tool shows how many 0.5 L bottles it fills. The "By product" tab shows who buys which size.

How to choose

Size by usage and product

Jerry can size depends on how much product you use in a week and how many different sauces are on the menu. The more items you have, the more often smaller packaging pays off, since each open can runs out faster. If the product is thick or chunky, choose a bucket.

Liquid and thick

Which product in which packaging

The first question for a sauce maker is whether the product pours or has to be spooned. Anything that flows freely through the neck goes into jerry cans; anything chunky or thick enough to hold its shape goes into buckets. The table lists the products cafes and producers bring to us and how many 0.5 L dispenser bottles one jerry can refills.

A ten-liter jerry can of soy sauce refills twenty half-liter dispenser bottles for the tables. Kitchens use less vinegar, so it's more often bought in the five-liter size: an open can doesn't take up extra space. Thick sauces and chunky marinades are listed under buckets, since they won't pour through the neck.

What matters in the kitchen

Sharp smell, dark color, frequent decanting

Vinegar fills the whole kitchen with its smell, soy sauce leaves dark stains on the counter, and marinade gets poured several times a shift. A jerry can doesn't change how the product behaves, but it helps keep all of that under control. Here are four things cooks and food technologists look at when choosing packaging.

Cap on after every pour

The screw cap goes back on as soon as you've poured what you need. An open container of vinegar quickly fills the kitchen with its smell, and the storeroom next door with the bread and flour too, while a closed jerry can sits on the shelf unnoticed.

A label you can read across the room

A white jerry can looks the same from the outside whatever is in it: vinegar, water, or sauce. A large label with the product name goes on the flat front panel, so the cook won't mistake vinegar for the water used in dough. There's also room for the producer's ingredients list, net weight, and fill date.

Refilling dispenser bottles

The handle is molded as one piece with the body, so you can tilt the jerry can with one hand and hold the funnel or bottle with the other. The narrow neck gives a controlled stream, so dark sauce doesn't spread across the prep table.

Room under the counter

The 5 L jerry can is 240 mm tall and 163 mm wide; the 10 L is 296 and 201 mm. Ribs at the base keep the body level even on a wire shelf, and a row of vinegar, soy sauce, and marinade fits on a single rack tier.

Logistics

Jerry cans and buckets in one truck

A sauce maker usually needs both jerry cans for liquids and buckets for thick products, so we combine them in one shipment. Keep the difference in mind when planning: empty jerry cans don't nest, so a pallet holds 180 of the 5 L or 100 of the 10 L, while the buckets in the same shipment travel in nested stacks. You can pick up your order at the factory in the Bishkek FEZ, Ak-Chiy village, and in Bishkek and across Chuy Region, we deliver packaging with our own trucks. Cafes and producers in Osh, Jalal-Abad, Karakol, Talas, and Naryn receive it through a freight carrier, and it goes to Almaty, Astana, Shymkent, and Karaganda by the pallet within the EAEU. When you place the order, your sales manager will tell you when the truck will arrive and how much shipping costs.

Questions and answers

Questions about packaging for vinegar and sauces

Didn't find your answer?A sales manager replies Mon-Fri, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM, Bishkek time

HTI jerry cans are molded from food-grade polypropylene. Vinegars vary in strength, so before switching your product to new packaging, test your recipe with a trial batch of jerry cans.

Most go for the 10 L: it fills twenty 0.5 L dispenser bottles. If space under the counter is tight, the five-liter is 56 mm shorter and 38 mm narrower.

It comes down to thickness. A thin sauce that pours freely goes into jerry cans, while a thick one with pieces of fruit or vegetables goes into 3.8 to 5.6 L buckets, where it's scooped out with a spoon or ladle.

Our sales manager prices each order based on size, quantity, and labeling. Call +996 222 600 292 and tell us your products and monthly filling volume, and we'll include buckets for thick sauces in the same quote.

Yes, with a label on the flat front panel, which has room for your logo, sauce name, ingredients, and net weight. Buckets for thick sauces can also carry your logo through in-mold labeling (IML), where the image is fused into the wall during molding.

Yes, by the pallet within the EAEU to Almaty, Astana, Shymkent, Karaganda, and other cities. Your sales manager will confirm delivery time and cost when you place the order, and jerry cans and buckets can ship on the same truck.

Pour through a funnel, tilting the jerry can by the handle and supporting it from underneath. To get the last of it, stand the nearly empty can neck-down over the funnel for a couple of minutes, and screw the cap back on right away so sauce doesn't dry in the threads.
